White Shirts…If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It!

In our last post we talked about the clothing item which took up the least amount of space in our closets.  Well this post we are talking about the item which takes up probably the most space (after denim, of course)…the white shirt.  In all its forms the white shirt is perfection.  It can be dressed up or dressed down, worn as a blank slate for statement accessories or worn just to help you feel cool when it is a hundred degrees outside.  By looking back at all our insta posts and Instagram Looks on our site, it is clearly evident how much we love white shirts.

A crisp white tie blouse (similar) is shown here with light blue shorts and flip flops.  It is such an easy look for running errands in the summer.  There are times when even though we are just trying to get things done we don’t want to wear workout clothes and this fits the bill perfectly. By pairing a white shirt with shorts you feel put together with very little effort! (Sunnies (similar), bracelets (here and here))

This silk blouse (similar here and here) was purchased last year and remains a favorite.  Paired here with seamed leggings it looks classic is perfect for that in-between casual and formal occasion.  We have been known to even rock this look at cocktail parties but throw this top on (half tucked) with a pair of your favorite denim and it is the perfect date night outfit! (shoes, bracelets (here and here), watch, ring, necklaces (similar here, here and here), sunnies (similar))

Maybe our favorite look of all time.  The classic white blouse.  We have shown this blouse several times before and no doubt it will be featured again many many many times! This is without question our favorite and pair it with favorite denim in any color and in any form (distressed, boyfriend, girlfriend, skinny, etc.) and it is a winning, go to outfit.  (sunnies, necklaces (in addition to those listed above, similar here and here), bracelets (here, here, here, here and here), watch, shoes)

The white shirt, it definitely ain’t broke!!

Don’t Skirt the Issue…Skirts Are the Issue

While inventorying our closets, we realized the wardrobe item taking up the least amount of space was skirts. We began to wonder why…did our mother not like skirts and not dress us in them as children? Do they not think flatter our bodies? Or, do we just decide to skip a step and buy a dress instead? Whatever the reason, we think we are making a mistake.

Think about it…with a change of top or shoes, a skirt can go from really dressy to really casual. A pencil skirt looks just as great with a pair of flats as it does with the highest heels you can wear and still remain vertical. With versatility comes options…less pieces, more outfits.

Below are some of Tracy’s skirts…her options outnumbered Alison’s. After preparing this post, we think we will probably explore skirt options more in the future.

We absolutely love the brightness of this pencil skirt (similar). Most women think you have to be a Size 2 to wear one, but not true. Pencil skirts are flattering on so many body types, especially ones with curves. So don’t be shy…flaunt it! We’re sure you recognize this perfect white shirt. We both own several and it goes with so many things. As we have said many times…nothing better than a crisp white shirt. We also love to wear this skirt with a chambray shirt for a more casual look. Go neutral with the shoes and bag so they don’t compete with the skirt. A touch of color and sparkle is added with earrings and bracelets (similar here & similar here).

If you wear your white jeans as often as we do, doesn’t it make sense to buy a white denim skirt just to switch things up?!! This short denim skirt is perfect for summer. The length is the same as shorts but makes the outfit a little more put together. This blue tank is comfy and the neckline is flattering for women of all ages. These sandals should be called the perfect sandals…comfy, durable and look great with just about any outfit. Add some great silver accessories (here, here, here & here)  and shades, and you are summer ready.

This skirt is a favorite (unfortunately sold out so here is a similar option) from one of our favorite lines…Who What Wear at Target. We have shown this skirt before with a tailored white shirt but we also love the simplicity of the black tank. The wedge shoes are perfect for the outfit but flat sandals would be great too. We thought the hat was a fun addition. If you are hesitant to wear a hat…be bold. They make you look fabulous!!! Finishing off the outfit are earrings, bracelets (here, here & similar here), watch and sunglasses. A great look for a date night or a summer party.

Hope these looks have inspired you (as they have us) to venture into the world of skirts. Doing so will bring out your creativity. See how many looks you can get from one skirt. We would love to hear from you and see pictures of how many options one skirt can offer.

Next week on the blog…the wardrobe item taking up the most space in our closets. Hint: you have seen it a lot on our blog and it is not shoes. Check back next week to see if you guessed right!

The Katy Trail Khronicles

If you have been following our blog (and we really hope you have) you may have noticed quite a few pictures from the same location…Katy Trail Outpost. This bar/restaurant is located in the north Dallas suburb of Plano, which is also the home of Lovely Alison. We wanted to utilize a blog post to help you understand why this place is one of our favorites.

First…The Food

Starting with the appetizers, we love the Loaded Cheese Fries. These are an indulgence and well worth it! Don’t even think about the calorie content….just enjoy the experience. The Steak House Onion Rings are massive circles of heaven. Another indulgence, but you only live once. And of course, Loaded Chips & Queso are a must on the menu of any respectable Texas inspired food establishment.

If you want a really great salad or burger, this is the place to be! We absolutely love the salads offered. FYI…request salads served in a tin instead of on a plate. These salads are huge!!! Our personal favorites are the Outpost Chop Salad and the Chicken Caesar. Tracy considers herself a Caesar Salad connoisseur and this one rates high on her list. The burgers are just really really good….enough said.

Last but not least…the barbecue. Different states in this great country profess their barbecue to be the best, and Texas is no different. When you drive up to the Outpost, you will notice the huge meat smoker. The barbecue menu offerings are standard, but why mess with perfection? It is only served Thursday thru Sunday until gone, so don’t procrastinate. Some days, supply can run out sooner rather than later.

BTW….sorry we have not posted any pictures of food. When they set it in front of us, we immediately chow down.

Second…The Beer

Don’t know that we really need to elaborate much on this. If you are not a beer lover, nothing we say could entice you. If you are a beer lover, all we have to say is variety and really cold. Could it get any better than that?

Third…The Atmosphere

This is a fun place! The seating options are in the bar, booths, 4-6 top tables and community tables in the main dining area. There are multiple televisions usually tuned to sports, and in Texas, we love our sports! Seating is open, so you choose. But choose wisely, once you are there, you may not want to leave for a while. The outdoor space is large, fun, colorful and pet-friendly. Want to have a beer with your pup, this is your place. Due to Texas weather (which can be really crazy) there are misters during the hot months and heaters during the cold. Texas music is a constant, but not too loud to make conversation difficult.

Fourth…Great Work Environment

The combination of all of the above and free wi-fi make this a relaxing work spot. Yes…we said relaxing. When we choose to get out of the house and move to a different work environment, Katy Trail is the perfect option. We hijack a space for an extended period, but are never made to feel rushed. Service is always attentive but not annoying. They seem to train the servers well…it’s a fun, relaxed place to be.

So, if you are one of the lucky and live in the Dallas area, check out Katy Trail Outpost in Plano or the original Katy Trail Ice House in Dallas. Well worth it and tell them notyourmoms50.com sent you!
